MY NAME IS EMILY
Emily Tobin-LaVoy is a life-long artist, with a primary focus on Fiber arts for over a decade. Woven tapestries explore the value and limitations of expertise through observation and practice while felted sculptures challenge the viewer’s sense of plausibility. What seems to make sense and therefore reflect reality is often an illusion that dissolves upon further scrutiny, yet we remain vulnerable to it. Color, pattern, and fantastical themes invite introspection and dialogue about how humans decide a thing is known and legitimate.
The tension of maintaining equilibrium in an ever changing world is a current running through all works. The fine line between complete comfort and total chaos is a practice that builds faith in the resilience and endurance of all beings.
